Is this a corporate PC? That could be a symptom of an intentional inhibition. Then check with your site administrator. Otherwise you can find previous discussions about this symptom by adding inetcpl to your search query. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

I have the same problem and have gone around the world looking for a fix. I see that someone said that it might be a corporate PC, but mine is not...so that's not the problem. Papa Bear gave you some suggestions, but as he said they're very detailed and unfortunately you need to access Tools/Options to use some of those suggestions. If I find a fix I'll certainly post it here. Please do the same. bk |

| Re: IE 7 - Tools+internet options won't display I too had this same problem, see also Tools>Internet Options Problems 20 posts, and Tools> Internet Options 3 Posts, on both of these Microsoft Outlook Calendar answered the problem for me, but I have found it impossible to tick the answer here, but MOC has the answer and it DOES work. Ok..Thanks to LindaA and MOC, here's the solution, so you won't have to search for it. I quote MOC: This is a System 32 file. Search for INETCPL.CPl if you find it, it probably will not be in the System 32 folder, Copy the file and put a copy in the system 32 file. Use the Service Pack file 350 KB, the update file 1775kb will not work. You can double click the 350 KB file first to see if will open IE 7 Tools Internet Options. Now. I couldn't find a 350KB inetcpl file, and you might not either. So I went to another computer of mine that has a working IE7, searched and found the 350KB inetcpl file, then I emailed it as an attachment to myself. Then ran a search on the screwed-up IE7 for inetcpl, found the 350 KB attachment, and copied it to System 32. All's well. |

According to the poster who gave the instructions, there was an update of the file in question with approximately 1700 KB, and the original was 350KB. Since I use automatic updates for Windows I assumed that this was the situation, since the larger file never worked. |

| Re: To DonVix ( Was Re: IE 7 - Tools+internet options won't display) Hi You have me a little confused with your purported fix for this issue in this thread. If you are indeed somehow using the 350KB file size of "inetcpl.cpl" then you are using the IE6 version of the Internet Options Applet. Have you actually looked it C:\Windows\System32 since you made this purported change, seems to me since inetcpl.cpl is a system protected file that any attempt on your part to delete||remove||or overwrite it would have triggered WFP(Windows File Protection) to overwrite your attempts by replacing the file you are attempting to use with a cached version of inetcpl.cpl file from C:\Windows\System32\dllcache. For what it's worth, here's a little history on that file. If you upgraded a Windows XP SP2 machine from IE6 to IE7, the IE6 version of inetcpl.cpl(version "6.00.2900.2180", size 350KB) is moved along with all other IE6 files to a backup folder on your hard drive located at C:\Windows\ie7. These files are used to roll you back to IE6 should you decide to uninstall IE7. IE7 then installs it's version of inetcpl.cpl(version "7.00.5730.11" size 1,775KB). After the initial install of IE7 there are (4) IE7 updates that change inetcpl.cpl including the Version and or File Size of that file, they are in order: KB928090 updates inetcpl.cpl to version "7.00.6000.16414" size 1,781KB. KB931768 updates inetcpl.cpl to version "7.00.6000.16441" size 1,781KB. KB933566 updates inetcpl.cpl to version "7.00.6000.16473" size 1,782KB. KB937143 updates inetcpl.cpl to version "7.00.6000.16512" size 1,782KB. So on a fully patched Windows XP SP2 machine with IE7 installed you should have Version "7.00.6000.16512" of inetcpl.cpl in the two following locations: C:\WINDOWS\system32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache Good luck, Donald Anadell "Bobby Knight" <bknight@conramp.net> wrote in message news:dksof3ps9bvelila4i1hs8q45evvqr86a4@4ax.com... > On Thu, 27 Sep 2007 16:54:31 -0400, "PA Bear" <PABearMVP******.com> > wrote: > >>"Bobby Knight" <bknight@conramp.net> wrote in message >>news:hgjnf35o6eispbi6c8q0tb682dt550he7l@4ax.com. .. >>> On Thu, 27 Sep 2007 10:54:02 -0400, "PA Bear" <PABearMVP******.com> >>> wrote: >>> >>>>Interesting. I did exactly what was reported. I just checked System32 and tinetcpl.cpl file is not the smaller one, so it may be that you are correct. In any event, it works. I really don't care how. BK |

| Re: To DonVix ( Was Re: IE 7 - Tools+internet options won't display) <snip> I really don't care how. </snip> Ok, I didn't mean to upset you. Sounds like the last IE7 update KB937143 may have somehow corrupted your copy of inetcpl.cpl in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. When you attempted to correct this by overwriting the file with the IE6 version of inetcpl.cpl then Windows File Protection kicked in and placed a good copy of the file from the C:\Windows\System32\dllcache folder back into C:\Windows\System32 folder which corrected the issue. At any rate, glad the issue is now resolved for you.
