Any help >> appreciated. >> I have follwed MS troubleshooting, but with no joy Error message after you install a Windows Internet Explorer 7 update from Windows Update or from Microsoft Update: "Webpage cannot be displayed" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942818 From Robear Dyer (PA Bear) If tweaking your third-party firewall's settings don' help, try the following: 1. Disable your anti-virus application, any real-time protection provided by an anti-spyware application (except for Windows Defender; includes Spybot Tea Timer, SpySweeper Guards, AVG AS guard.exe, etc.), disable any third-party firewall AND enable the Windows Firewall. NB: If you're running ZA Free firewall, you may need to uninstall it instead of disabling it. You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) except #4 below until your anti-virus application has been re-enabled! 2. Uninstall "Security Update for Windows Internet Explorer 7 (KB939653)" [or "Security Update for Windows XP (KB939653)"] via Add/Remove Programs (make sure Show Updates box is checked at top right) and reboot. 3. Re-do #1 above. 4. Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any Critical Updates offered. If "Root Certificates" update is listed in the Optional Updates category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of IE7's additional security. 5. Reboot > Make sure everything in #1 above is enabled again and, if applicable, disable the Windows Firewall and enable your third-party firewall. -- Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM www.fjsmjs.com Do not send email |

| Re: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Thanks Frank Saunders, I have "cured" the IE7 - For information, I am using Windows Vista Basic Edition. The problem is with the Kepersky Anti Virus - disable it, and your problem is history. It all happens once I have updated the Kepersky Anti Virus. I prefer to use AVG Free Edition, just as good, maybe even superior than those paid anti-virus programs. | Re: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Hi, I've been having this problem too and haven't yet been able to resolve it. I have followed the troubleshooting tips here and on the MS Help and Support article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926431 but all to no avail. Again, all other applications and browsers work fine, just not IE. It started a while ago, but I haven't had the time to sort it until now - I don't remember changing any settings or software at the time - the only thing I can think of is Windows Automatic Updates. I am using: -XP Home Edition with SP2 -AVG Free -Windows Firewall I have tried disabling AVG and Windows Firewall and have uninstalled all other anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware software to try to get round the problem, but none of this has helped. Any further tips available? All suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks, Adam "Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM" wrote: > "Moby" <Moby@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:55150CE7-0248-47BC-B3AA-714E9827F938@microsoft.com... > > Hello, same here, although I am in Windows Vista home basic ...
