link to pps file in IE7?

I have a powerpoint presentation (pps) that I want to run as a slideshow when
a user clicks the link to it.
In IE6 and Firefox this works as expected, and when I save the file from IE7
to my HD and open it, it also works.
If however I try to open the file directly after clicking the link, it opens
as a presentation (edit mode) instead of as a slideshow.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Re: link to pps file in IE7?

Hi,

By default the Browser should open the .pps file in "Slide Show mode" by
default, then one would click on "Edit||Edit Slides" to switch to "Edit
mode". That's how it works here in both IE6 and IE7.

If you don't have the Menu bar showing in IE7, hit the ALT key to show the
Menu bar and then click on View while you have the .pps file open. Click on
View||Slide Show or hit F5 to toggle it to Show Mode.

Also there is a Registry tweak that allows the Presentation to open in "Edit
Mode" instead of the default "Slide Show Mode" in the Browser, is it
possible that you've performed this tweak at some time and you just
forgotten about it or used some third party program that applied the tweak.

The following KB Article shows where to look in the registry to see if this
tweak has been applied on your machine:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=299824

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.8
DWORD value = BrowserFlags
DATA values:
a = Open in Edit Mode
8 = Open in New Window in Show Mode
0(zero) = Open in current Window in Show Mode
no value = Open in curent Window in Show Mode

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Re: link to pps file in IE7?

Thanks for the help.
The registry value was indeed set to 'a' instead of the default '0', and
resetting it solved the problem.
I have checked this also on some other pc's at work, and they were all set
to 'a', while no one has ever changed this manually.

Could it be that this setting is changed by the Office 2007 setup?
