IE7, Vista

I used to be able to click on a video link, and the video would open in WMP
and start playing. Now it downloads the whole video before asking me if I
want to open it. This happened after I installed (and uninstalled) another
media player. I have tried resetting everything in ie7 to no avail. Does
anyone know how to fix this?

I was wondering if this was ever resolved as I have exactly the same problem (with wmv files e.g.). Solutions I have see (VISTA 32) include, generally in order:

1. Go into IE7's Tools, Internet Options, Programs and (re)set Default Programs back to their defaults i.e. default file types they can play.
2. Same as 1 but choose Set Program Access and Defaults, then In the Choose a configuration box, double-click Custom, In the Choose a default media player area, click Windows Media Player.
3. Manually associate wmv with WMP
4. Remove NERO Showtime.
5. Remove (uninstall) other media players.

1~3 pretty much all do the same thing. None o of these have worked so far. Most annoying.
