Internet Explorer 7 keeps closing down

Everytime I activate Internet Explorer to surf the web I get an error message
saying "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close down".
On every occasion I have reported the problem via the windows report but
there has been no resolution. This is a recent problem everything has been
fine before. What is happening ???.
I have tried installing IE 7 agin from the web site but still the same
happens, using a help link yesterday I restored the explorer to default
settings and everything was perfect then when I got an update to IE7 message
and updated to IE7 with its subsequent updates everything startyed to go
wrong again, sometimes I can get to a site's home page OK but if i try to
proceed any further same problem just closes down HEEEELP

RE: Internet Explorer 7 keeps closing down

I am having the exact same problem, I came here to ask for some help as well,
it's only just started happening in the last few days and I've tried
reinstalling IE7 and run several Norton Antivirus scans but everything seems
fine,
Is there anything we can do???

Re: Internet Explorer 7 keeps closing down

Hello,

(* does IE work without add-ons? Press Windows-key + R ->
iexplore -extoff -> Enter )
* so you tried setting IE back to its default settings, and then it worked
again?
* do you know which update(s) for IE you installed?

Greetings,

Re: Internet Explorer 7 keeps closing down

Hi again,

I just disabled add-ons and it seems to work perfectly now, is there a way
to permanently disable them so when I open IE the problem won't keep
happening??

Thanks for you help, I've been spending ages trying to sort it to no avail!

Andy

Re: Internet Explorer 7 keeps closing down

Hello,

can you start IE normally and get into the menu, or will it crash before?
Then you can disable one add-on after the other (Tools -> Manage add-ons ->
Enable or disable add-ons) and see if it works, until you find the culprit,
so that you don't lose the add-ons that work properly.

If IE crashes before you can get to that menu, you'll likely have to set
back IE's settings. Start IE (without add-ons, if it doesn't work
otherwise), and select Tools -> Internet Options -> tab Advanced -> Reset...
.. The add-ons will be deleted.

Hope this helps you.

"P" ypu are a star, did what uou suggested and founf the little bugger, looks
like it was the Norton Confidential Browser Helper Object causing the
problem, everything seems fine so far when that is disabled, cheers again Matt

Re: Internet Explorer 7 keeps closing down

I figured out this problem for myself last night. In my case the culprit
add-on is Norton Confidential Browser Object. Once I disabled this add-on,
IE7 worked perfectly. You do not need to disable all the add-ons, just that
one. Apparently, on July 31 there was an "upgrade" to Norton Internet
Security which caused this problem.

This is not the first time I have wasted countless hours with Norton. The
program is trouble waiting to happen.
