| IE opens 60+ blank windows at once! Help! My WinXP Pro system d/l an automatic update & install this morning. It had tried to install the update yesterday, but gave me an error msg. (Sorry...can't remember it completely.....something about a corrupt file, maybe?) But I didn't have time to deal with it before leaving for work. Came home from work this a.m. & evidently, the computer had installed the update (Windows installer 3.1? I believe) and restarted my computer. Everything was fine until I tried opening IE (ver 7.0) It will open up to my home page & everything looks fine...until I either click on a link or enter a new website in the address bar. Then it locks up ....and then loads 60+ blank windows! No error msgs, no nothing. All my other software is working fine, and have even been able to d/l other software updates from links within the software itself, so it isn't my network connection. I've run virus scans, spyware scans, and I just finished running MS Win Malicious Software Removal Tool and it didn't find ANYTHING after a total system scan. (deep sigh.) I can only assume the problem started with the Win Installer 3.1, but when I go to uninstall it in Control Panel, I get this scary msg giving me a whole list of programs that won't work properly if it's removed. I've tried searching the 'net & the newsgroups here to find similar problems, but no such luck. Thank goodness my husband's laptop is still able to connect, otherwise, I'd really be in a mess. Thanks in advance for your help! |

IE 7 does not open blank windows for "fun." Something has taken over. |
