Search Plugin in IE 7 without JS?

Hello,

does anyone know if it is possible to install search plugins manually inside
IE 7, that is without Javascript (to guarantee Accessibility for handicapped
people).

In Firefox you simple put the respective open search file to a specific
folder inside the user profile - is that possible as well with IE 7?

Thanks for your help,
Peter

How about adding the search pages to the Links toolbar? On my Links
toolbar I have a folder with dozens of search pages.

sorry, I don't quite understand what you are getting at... :(

What I meant was this:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/...l/default.mspx

On that page Microsoft uses Javascript to install the respectives
SearchPlugins (which are coded as OpenSearch xml files).
Now, if a user has disabled Javascript, it is not possible to add the search
plugins.
Is there a way to do it manually?

Thanks for help
Peter

Re: Search Plugin in IE 7 without JS?

The only other way I know is the way I described. Are you familiar with
adding links to the Links toolbar? If so, you can also add a folder
which contain links ('Favorites') to the search pages of your choice,
like www.google.com.

A more complicated way is to setup Internet Explorer to use symbols in
the Address toolbar. For example, to search for bicycles with Google you
would type something like ggg bicycles. But you want to avoid
complicated setups, right?

Re: Search Plugin in IE 7 without JS?

Thanks for your answer, Leonard!

Well the problem is that I am working for a public institutions that has to
provide the exact same functionality to disabled people as to anybody else.
Thus, if a regular user gets the slot to search our web offer via a slot in
the upper right corner of the web browser then everybody else has to be able
to do so as well.

The question is: Where does IE 7 put the OpenSearch XML file so that I can
tell our users where to put it? Or is it simply inaccessible (different from
Firefox)?
