Alphabetizing In The Favorites Center

I have used IE for years and upgraded with each new program. In IE6, I was
able to alphabetize the folders I created in the Favorites Center. I was
also able to enter any given folder and alphabetize the links therein. I
finally installed IE7 last week, and I have found that I cannot do any
alphabetizing of either the folders or links within the folders.

This may not be important to many, but it is something I used frequently for
hobby and business purposes. Does anyone have any idea how I can turn on the
alphabetizing feature for the Favorites Center? Any advice/solutions will be
appreciated.

Re: Alphabetizing In The Favorites Center

In the Favorites list, right click and select "Sort by Name" in whatever
folder you are in.

Re: Alphabetizing In The Favorites Center

If you open Favorites Center and right-click on a folder or link, is the
Sort by Name option missing or doesn't it work?

What anti-virus application are you using?

Re: Alphabetizing In The Favorites Center

Thanks to all who have answered thus far. I have tried right clicking and
selecting "sort by name." However, the feature does not work. I am using
Norton Security 2007 and Webroot Spy Sweeper for virus protection.

Sorting Favorites requires a Registry change. It might be a security
program blocking the Registry change it needs to make. A few, but not all,
of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Spyware Doctor
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.

Re: Alphabetizing In The Favorites Center

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the change. These include but are not
limited to Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer, SpywareBlaster,
*SpySweeper*, Spyware Doctor, *Norton AntiVirus*, McAfee VirusScan and/or
Antispyware, and Zone Alarm (Free and Pro).

Here's something else about NAV that you may not be aware of:

Re: Alphabetizing In The Favorites Center

GOOD NEWS! Its working. I miss-understood the suggestions about where to
right click to cause alphabetizing. Two nights ago, I was sitting around
steaming about not getting the feature to work when I placed my cursor on the
item I wanted to move then selecting the alphabetize feature. Not only did
that item alphabetize within the folder, but all other links that were out of
order alphabetized as well. I'm happy again.

Many thanks for all the assistance by those who answered.
