| IE7 fails to open up a link in new windows/tabs Working with XP Pro - latest IE7 I cannot opened up any new pop up links (e.g www.theglobeandmail.com click any media files) in new windows or tabs (my tabs settings). But the link can be opened in the original tab. I have run through Opening IE without Add-on, Reset IE settings, changed a bunch of tab settings, disabled all add-ons, enabled/disabled pop up blockers - still no luck. My Symmatec and Windows Defenders said my computer is running healthy. Unfortunately, IE is the default browser for my company. I cannot switch to Firefox. I am getting very frustrated. I am stop short of uninstalling IE 7. But you know sometimes the Microsoft uninstalling might not work. Any help??? |

| Re: IE7 fails to open up a link in new windows/tabs Can you give a specific example of a link that you cannot get to open in a new tab or window? I've clicked all over the home page and have no problem getting text or media links to open in new tabs and windows. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Ecikin wrote: > Working with XP Pro - latest IE7 > > I cannot opened up any new pop up links (e.g www.theglobeandmail.com click > any media files) in new windows or tabs (my tabs settings). | Re: IE7 fails to open up a link in new windows/tabs That would be like any link that would pop up in a new window or tab. For example, when I click on the "reply" button to make a reply to your message. I know it sound strange and I have double-checked the settings with other PC, run in no add-on mode, reset IE settings but none fixes the problem. I did not recall I have installed anything new nor doing anything special. Can you help? | Re: IE7 fails to open up a link in new windows/tabs You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that you.., 1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html 2. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window Blinds). 3. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install, and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. | Re: IE7 fails to open up a link in new windows/tabs Yeah, I think I eventually have to unistall IE 7 to resolve the problem. But I have hesitation in doing so because it might be aborted out during the uninstallation process (I had wonderful experience with Microsoft products) and I might end up with installing the whole XP !!! That is why I try to see if you experts have any better idea. Btw, I found that if I put new links to tabs (instead of new windows), I am able to press the stop button (if I open the link in new windows, the tool bar, menu are all missing) and then press the reload - then voila the new link page got loaded in no time ... amazing !!! Still any comment or suggestion is welcomed. "PA Bear" wrote: > You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that > you.., > > 1. | Re: IE7 fails to open up a link in new windows/tabs If you follow the instructions here *to the letter*, IE7 should uninstall cleanly: http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html If you've run a "Registry cleaner" since you installed IE7 and it removed necessary files, chances are that the uninstall will fail. In that event, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=917964 -- ~PA Bear Ecikin wrote: > Yeah, I think I eventually have to unistall IE 7 to resolve the problem. > But > I have hesitation in doing so because it might be aborted out during the > uninstallation process (I had wonderful experience with Microsoft > products) > and I might end up with installing the whole XP !!! > > That is why I try to see if you experts have any better idea.
