IE7 shuts down unexpectedly

I downloaded IE 7 a few weeks ago, and in the past few days I noticed the
browser windows disappearing from the screen (with all the tabs and content)
without warning. I went to the trouble shoot page where it says some add-ons
may cause conflicts, so I disabled all add-ons yet the problem persists.

I ran Symantec Antivirus, AVG Antivirus and Spybot, and no virus / spyware
were found. Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?

Re: IE7 shuts down unexpectedly

Two things I would suggest to try and solve the problem;

1. Do not run more than one AV program in real time.
(check the following link for an explanation)
http://www.smartcomputing.com/editor...8s07/38s07.asp

2. Uninstall Symantec's AV program. It is a known resource hog and provides
no better protection than the competition.
(I suggest using the Symantec uninstall tool provided on their web site for
removal)

Based on the limited information you provided; no OS provided, no Startup
programs noted, no configuration info given, it is hard to troubleshoot the
problem you describe.

Re: IE7 shuts down unexpectedly

Are both Symantec and AVG anti-virus applications loading at boot?

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode?

To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b)
all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds) and don't reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist?

RE: IE7 shuts down unexpectedly

I am also having a major problem with IE7 (version 7.0.5730.11) on both my XP
computers. Two or three times a day I get a dialog saying there was a problem
and that the problem was being reporting to Microsoft. It can happen in the
middle of a session or when I close a browser (usually takes ages to do so).
I then also lose all my other browser sessions. Microsoft should have about
100 error reports from me. What's happening and has anyone else had a similar
problem?
There is also a problem with this web site, will not let me create a new
post. All I could do is reply to a current one.

Turn off your popup blockers and you should be able to make your own post.
