| Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. I recently bought a new Dell laptop, and get the above mentioned error message quite often. I did receive it periodically on my old desktop (about 3 years old), but rarely. When I first started using this laptop, I got it periodically, but now (about 2 weeks later) I get it consistently. It happens most often after opening a popup window within a site (the popup is not an ad or anything, it's a regular part of that website), and then close that popup window. However, it also heppsn when I close just a regular IE window, or even without closing any IE windows. Any suggestions? |

| Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Hi Rich, It sounds like an incompatible Addon - a toolbar addon with its own popup blocker. Does this occur when you run IE7 in no-Addons mode. Start>(All) Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Internet Explorer (no Addons)? Did your Dell come with an OEM version of Vista? They may have bundled an IE Addon with their build. You don't need a second popup blocker with IE7 as it comes with one built-in. Regards. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close It actually runs XP, not Vista. The only addon with popup blocker is google ...but I used that same toolbar with my old desktop and dint' have nearly as many problems. And also, the problem doesn't JUST occur with popup windows . ..tonight, for example, it happens nearly every time I close an IE window. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close Hi Rich, Check with google for updates to their toolbar for IE7. http://toolbar.google.com to ensure you have the latest version. Also check if the google toolbar is checking to see if google is the default search provider (Toolbar Options) as this setting blocks changes to the registry (IE writes settings to the registry when it is closed). Usually this results in an error message "Intruction at &Hblahblah could not be read....Internet Explorer has to be closed" Regards. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. "IE has encountered a problem and needs to close" event ID 1000. Clicking on the IE icon generates the error as it attempts to contact websites on the internet. IE 7 can have multiples tabs open at launch. Google is not compatible to use as a home page for multiple tabs. With google as a home page with several other pages tested, IE will crash with this error. Perhaps its not just google, but something else. Right now, I'm not spending more time on this. I'll wait for MS to release more updates for IE. Eventually they will get it right. |
