| Maximize vertical screen space I'd like to be able to condense the top part of a IE7 window to just two 'rows' (instead of the current minimum of three), in order to see more of web pages. IE6 permitted the following two-row arrangement: [menu controls, eg., File, ...] [address field] [nav controls/commands] [favourite links] It'd be great if IE7 would support something like that too, eg., [nav arrows] [address field] [toolbar commands] [favourite links] (I would sacrifice the 'search/go' field to do this -- instead I just use a link, one of my favourite links, to a search engine, and/or make a search engine my home page) Obviously I don't enable tabs -- I find OS windows work fine -- but people wanting tabs would have a third row, of tabs, instead of four. Microsoft people and many commentators say that maximizing space (esp vertical) for the web view is a good thing, and I think the above suggestion would be a step in that direction (restoring something IE6 supported). I want to see the applications, not the OS. (Don't worry, Microsoft, I'll love your OS user interface even more if I see less of it.) (I'd post screen shots but this forum s/w apparently doesn't support it) ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. | Re: Maximize vertical screen space Do you honestly feel that three-eighths of an inch or so impairs your browsing experience? Because if that's the kind of thing that really bothers you, there's a bigger issue here. Look, I'm no lover of Internet Explorer 7 or even Microsoft for that matter. The world is full of little things that don't matter that only bug me if I let them. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Baffin wrote: > I'd like to be able to condense the top part of a IE7 window to just two > 'rows' (instead of the current minimum of three), in order to see more of web > pages. > > IE6 permitted the following two-row arrangement: > [menu controls, eg., File, ...] [address field] > [nav controls/commands] [favourite links] > > It'd be great if IE7 would support something like that too, eg., > [nav arrows] [address field] [toolbar commands] > [favourite links] > > (I would sacrifice the 'search/go' field to do this -- instead I just use a > link, one of my favourite links, to a search engine, and/or make a search > engine my home page) > > Obviously I don't enable tabs -- I find OS windows work fine -- but people > wanting tabs would have a third row, of tabs, instead of four. > > Microsoft people and many commentators say that maximizing space (esp > vertical) for the web view is a good thing, and I think the above suggestion > would be a step in that direction (restoring something IE6 supported). > > I want to see the applications, not the OS. | Re: Maximize vertical screen space Hello Baffin, With the Quero Toolbar, which is a replacement for the fixed navigation bar in IE7, you can arrange the layout as follows: [Quero Toolbar (navigation/address bar)] [menu bar] [links toolbar] To completely hide the command bar download the Quero Launcher, a command tool I developed, and execute the following command: qlaunch.exe commandbar=no Best regards, Viktor Krammer -- http://www.quero.at/ The New Web Experience |

| Re: Maximize vertical screen space Actually, every PIXEL of reduced screen space is a problem. And just why exactly shouldn't customization be allowed?
