| deleted links keep recreating themselves Hi there, I've started using IE7, and I'd like to remove the pre-set favorites directories; "MSN Websites", "Microsoft websites", "Windows Live" blah blah blah. I delete them, but next time I start up they are recreated. Anyone know how I can rid myself of these pestering little things? thanks! Dave |

| Re: deleted links keep recreating themselves Your security software may be preventing you from changing your Favorites, since this is something malicious software does. | Re: deleted links keep recreating themselves Hmmm. It doesn't actually prevent me from deleting them. That works, it's just that the folders and links are recreated when I next startup. Also, I can add, change and delete other favorites and these changes persist. The problem only occurs with the pre-set MS links. This makes me think it's an IE thing rather than system security. Has anyne else tried to delete these folders? What did you find? | Re: deleted links keep recreating themselves Hi, If you normally don't display hidden folders, you could right-click those folders/favorites and change the attribute to hidden. They are in the registry in the same place that IEAK packages would create their custom folders and links. So, that suggests two possibilities to me: try deleting the equivalent entries in the registry when you delete something externally or try using the IEAK to create your own custom menu. --- > > Has anyne else tried to delete these folders? | Re: deleted links keep recreating themselves This is an IE 7 Bill Gates feature (forceware): I am sick and tired of Microsoft forcing the "Customize Links" shortcut on the LINKS bar, and the folder "Microsoft Websites" in the bookmarks folder being forced upon us. Please someone in Redmond come up with a solution (besides hidden folders, which won't work with the "Customize Links" shortcur) that shuts this stuff off. This is as bad as Yahoo! and Google pushing their toolbar addons any sneaky way they can. |

| Re: deleted links keep recreating themselves Have you actually read any of these posts? The problem is you CANNOT delete them permanently "after it's installed". You can delete them for one session; the next time you start IE, they will be back. And you really cannot see the problem with software not allowing you to make permanent changes to your personal settings? So what if they all do it? That just makes them all equally offensive. No I can't - as I said, what HARM is it doing you? And anyway - you BROWSE to My Computer everytime you boot up, so it's BOUND to show in browsing history every day, isn't it? just get used to it. |
