mp3 file wont' play

http://www.gavincalzada.info/rosenmethod.html

From this link, if you click on the audio link in upper right portion of
page ("Play"), a new window opens but the mp3 won't start playing. The
error seems to say "object expected."

Plays fine in Firefox - any idea why it won't in IE?

Thanks!

RE: mp3 file wont' play

Yes, because you need to install a quicktime add-in for IE...this is a
quicktime file, so you need a quicktime plug-in

Re: mp3 file wont' play

I have the latest version of quicktime installed and I've searched
Microsoft's download center for a quicktime plug-in for IE and it returns
nothing. Can you please forward me to the plug-in I need to install s that
I can download/play .mp3's directly from the web?

Thank you in advance!!!

Re: mp3 file wont' play

Hi,

You don't necessarily need Quicktime to get the MP3 file at that site to
play, you can use Windows Media Player as the Default Player for MP3 files.
Try the following to set Windows Media Player as the default player for MP3
file.

Open Windows Media Player and click on Tools||Options...||File Types, if
there is no checkmark next to "MP3 audio file (mp3)" but a checkmark in the
box and click Apply.

If there is already a checkmark in the box next to "MP3 audio file (mp3)"
then toggle the checkmark off and then on. In other words, if the checkmark
is already there remove it and click Apply then close Windows Media Player.
Now open Windows Media Player again and put the checkmark back in and click
Apply and close Windows Media Player. Revisit the site and see if clicking
on Play opens the Windows Media Player to play the MP3 file.

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

FWIW I get an empty popup window with the .mp3 URL in the Address bar
first and then WMP opens. I wonder if a popup blocker would inhibit that
(and then prevent the WMP from starting too?

Also, ICIM I still have LocalMachine_LockDown in effect.
We know that "object expected" often occurs when users have
Allow active content to run in files on My Computer*
(in Options, Advancded tab, Security section) checked... ; )

Hi Robert,

Thanks for the feedback.

What you describe with regard to an additional Browser window opening up
before WMP is called to play the MP3 file is also what I experience here in
all browsers. This is caused by the use of (target="_blank") in the link
tag on the site, which is written in the form of:

<A HREF="myfile.mp3" target="_blank"><img src="mypicture.jpg" alt="describe
picture and/or music here"></a>

If the tag were written in the form of:

<A HREF="myfile.mp3"><IMG SRC="mypicture.jpg" ALT="describe picture and/or
music here"></A>

omitting the (target="_blank") then WMP(or Quicktime depending on the file
association) would simply pop up when the image was clicked without the
blank IE window popping up. While I'm confident that it's IE7 Popup Blocker
causing this, you could be correct in that some Third Party Popup Blocker
could be preventing WMP(or Quicktime) from starting properly?

I tested the site with IE6, and IE7 with "LocalMachine_LockDown" enabled and
disabled, and I'm unable to reproduce the OP's "object expected" error. My
original assumption was that the OP had a bad install of Quicktime which had
taken over the file association for MP3 files, but as is often the case
here, with no feedback from the OP it's hard to troubleshoot these issues...
;)
