WebMail embedded images missing under IE7/Vista

I use Comcast webmail. My various computers include W2K Pro with IE6, XP
Home with IE6, and Vista Home Premium with IE7.

On my XP / IE6 computers, everything works ok.

On the Vista computer, my Comcast webmail email messages display text, rich
text, HTML and HTML-based images fine. However, inserted, imbedded images do
not display. I do not even see a place-holder for them (i.e., no blank
rectange; no red 'X').

Imbedded images work fine on all of my other computers. Same mail server;
same web-based email interface.

Note that, in the mail directory, Comcast webmail displays a paper clip both
for attachments and for imbedded images. The paperclip is there; it is just
that the image does not display. Text in the same email as the image
displays fine.

Any ideas regarding what might be the cause? Comcast Support has nothing
in their knowledge base about this problem. They suggested my trying this
Microsoft Vista forum.

Re: WebMail embedded images missing under IE7/Vista

Hi,
Try disabling browser add-ons.
See: http://www.enhanceie.com/ie/troubleshoot.asp
for troubleshooting information.

Next, turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and
disable your third-party firewall or security suite. See if that's causing
the problem. Are you running any ad-blocking programs that might be causing
this?

Next, try the Reset button in Internet Options> Advanced. Note that this
will delete stored (autocomplete) passwords. Do you have those recorded
elsewhere?

What Reset IE Settings will do...
923737- How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):

Hope this helps,
Don

Re: WebMail embedded images missing under IE7/Vista

Thanks, Don.

I have already tried the IE "Reset" button. "Reset" did not correct the
problem.

I will try your other suggestions.

Re: WebMail embedded images missing under IE7/Vista

Thanks, Don. One of your suggestions solved my problem.

The problem was in my McAfee firewall configuration.

The McAfee firewall configuration includes the following features, each of
which can be independently enabled or disabled:
- Firewall protection
- Web browsing protection
- Personal information protection
Under "Web browsing protection", advanced configuration sub-features are:
- Block advertisements
- Block pop-up windows
- Block Web bugs
The culprit that was blocking embedded images in my email messages was
"Block adverisements". I disabled that feature, and now my Comcast
web-based email works fine.
