| Multiple windows open when you start Windows Internet Explorer I've seen posts where people click on links in a web page and have multiple IE7 windows open and a KB article referring to the problem after an upgrade from XP to Vista, but..... I'm on a brand new laptop - several weeks old - with Vista Home Premium pre-installed. I've been using IE7 on it without a problem until today. Whenver I open IE7, I get an infinite number of windows opening - about one per second. The only way to stop it is rebooting. I've tried some suggestions found on the web, none of which have solved the problem. Anti-virus and anti-spyware scans have come back clean although I'm running some other programs to further check. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. |

Any suggestions are greatly > appreciated. I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems: 1. Incompatible add-ons: What if you right click the IE icon on the desktop and choose Start Without Add-ons? Or go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). 2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. 3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware All MS-MVP Sites. http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/darnit.html http://www.mvps.org/sramesh2k/Malware_Defence.htm Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315 So How Did I Get Infected Anyway? For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you owe it to the author. | Re: Multiple windows open when you start Windows Internet Explorer Thank you for your response. I ran all the checks for viruses/anti-spy/malware and came up clean. Per your first suggestion, I started IE without add-ons (didn't know about this option) and it worked fine. Now to figure out which add-on caused the problem suddenly. Thanks again, Jo |

| RE: Multiple windows open when you start Windows Internet Explorer Hi Jo, the same thing was happening with my brand new laptop. I just tried the no add-on option for IE and we'll see if it happens again...it didn't happen that often to begin with. Since it's been over a year for you, can you let me know if it's happened since? Thanks, Cindy "Jo" wrote: > I've seen posts where people click on links in a web page and have multiple > IE7 windows open and a KB article referring to the problem after an upgrade > from XP to Vista, but..... > > I'm on a brand new laptop - several weeks old - with Vista Home Premium > pre-installed.
