IE7 Norton Firewall

I have been having similar problems to some items posted here regarding
IE7 and connecting to the internet on a Windows XP PC. I have Norton
Firewall installed and if I disable the firewall the connection works. As
soon as the firewall is switched back on the problem returns.

I have noticed that people have suggested reverting back to IE6 and
switching off automsatic windows updates. I'm reluctant to do this and wonder
if any one has managed to resolve this by making changes to any of the
setting in IE7 or in Norton Firewall?

Any suggestions appreciated as I'm desperate to get this resolved!

RE: IE7 Norton Firewall

Why not just keep IE7, turn off Norton firewall, and use Windows firewall,
Windows firewall will give good protection.

Re: IE7 Norton Firewall

If you are referring to Norton Personal Firewall, it is not compatible
with IE 7.

IE 7 or NPF - your choice.

Re: IE7 Norton Firewall

AndyD, I have WinXP and use Norton Internet Security 2007 which does not
cause a problem with IE7.

Eric

Re: IE7 Norton Firewall

NIS 2007 is *supposed* to be compatible with IE7. Previous versions are
not.

Uninstall everything Norton, turn on the Windows Firewall and get the free
Avast anti-virus.

1) Uninstall *all* Norton applications
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039

2) If you are broadband connection get a suitable router and enable the
in-built WinXP f/w.
2a) If on dial-up connection the WinXP f/w is adequate and doing an
excellent job.

3) Looking for a good free (plain vanilla) AV?
AOL Active Virus Shield
http://www.activevirusshield.com/ant...eav/index.adp?
(DO NOT download the toolbar offered during installation)

BTW: Consider 'hardening' your OS.

Good luck :)

Re: IE7 Norton Firewall

If looking for free and good AV software, try bitdefender.com's free edition.
But if you want a real bug basher and you're willing to pay, try Windows
OneCare.

Gistcheckin

You are kidding of course. One Care is the worst thing that you can use. Nor very effective in any form or shape. AVG and Avast free are far more superior or just about anything else
