Exchange outlook web access 2003 - open .doc file

I am able to access my e-mail from my employer through the internet via
Microsoft office, Outlook Web Access, Microsoft exchange server 2003.
I am able to use either my IE 7 or Firefox browser software successfully.
Using IE, reading e-mails with attached WORD .doc files, the .doc file will
not open when I click the open button. I only receive a blank screen.
I have to download the .doc file to my desktop and read by opening it from
there.
I use MS Office Professional 2003 on my desktop. My OS is Windows XP
Professional
Excel .xls files will open just fine using the open button.
And when I use Firefox I can open the .doc files using the open button just
fine.
I prefer using IE 7 and I would like to be able to open the .doc files from
within the IE 7 browser and not download it first to my desktop and read it
from my resident WORD intsall.
Is there a setting or add-in that I can adjust or change or check from my
desktop IE 7 browser set-up to allow this? Or is this a function on my job’s
server side?

You receive an error message when you try to perform any editing tasks, or
you must click to enable the compose frame in Outlook Web Access

Neither me or my employer are using Windows Vista as our operating system.

Okay, you don't have the first symptom. How about the others?

Re: Exchange outlook web access 2003 - open .doc file

I don't receive any error messages nor do I have to click to enable a compose
frame in OWA.
When I open an e-mail message with a WORD .doc file it opens the WORD frame
but there is no document displayed-only a blank WORD workspace.
IE7 will successfully open all other files. Firefox will open the .doc files
okay.

Thank you for your interest and efforts at helping.
