Is there a way to get rid of the following in IE7? I would very much

Hi there,

I have another question also. I want to get rid of the Command Icon bar
also. I would appreciate your help on this.

For some reason it does not allow me to remove the whole bar. The next best
thing I could do was to Customize it by removing all the icons it can
possibly show. But, for some reason when IE7 is started next time, all the
icons show up again!

I have developed some tools to customize and replace the address bar in IE7:

Try my command-line utility Quero Launcher with the following options:

qlaunch.exe location=no
qluanch.exe searchbox=no

An alternative to the fixed navigation bar in IE7 is to use the Quero
Toolbar and to turn off the navigation bar from there (Quero > Options >
Appearance > Check "Hide standard address/navigation bar").

You can also use the theater mode of IE7:

qluanch.exe theater

Thank you for your help. I downloaded the program and looks like it changed
my registry entries and put the Menu bar at the top of IE7. Thank you for
your help.

Question: I'm using the Google taskbar, so don't need the IE Address Bar.
How do I remove it?

Method 1:

To disable the Address Bar from being shown, set the NoAddressBar value to 1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet
Explorer\Toolbars\Restrictions

To prevent the user from enabling the Address bar, set NoBandCustomize value
to 1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer


Method 2:

NOTE: The following method is unsupported and it's your duty to backup the
appropriate registry key in case you want to undo the setting back.

Open Registry Editor and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{01E04581-4EEE-11d0-BFE9-00AA005B4383}\InProcServer32

(Backup the registry key by exporting it to a REG file)

In the right-pane, double-click (default) and delete the value given there
(%SystemRoot%\System32\browseui.dll)

I would not do this, personally, since the Address Bar is a useful tool
to combat phishing.

[If you are setting up a computer in a public area there is a much
better way.]

Hi Leonard:

Thank you for your help. It is a bummer! I prefer to use short cut keys and
in my opinion the Icon bar is a waste of valuable real estate on my monitor.

Just do not understand why MS would have to interfere with my preferences of
how the IE7 should look and feel. Upgraded to IE7 in my work machine
yesterday and apart from the Tab's where I can keep many web sites under a
single window (which saves viewable space on my monitor), there isn't much in
IE7 that I like.

Hello Subbiah:

I don't work for Microsoft so I don't know what their design philosophy
was. From what I have read it appears that strengthening the browser's
security and bringing it up-to-date with the competition feature-wise
(principally tabs and RSS) were priorities. As for its appearance, I
understand it was created to fit in with Vista.

In any case, I doubt the browser's frame is carved in stone. Perhaps
more flexibility will be introduced later on. For now, I'm glad to have
tabs and to know that IE 7 has been hardened against attack.
