| Favorites disappearing I have recently reinstalled IE 7 after a corupt file problem. I did that and was using TweakIU to find my favorites folder and re-direct it. It worked only briefly and crashed my IE so I reinstalled again and then attempted to use the Favorites. Unfortunately, they have now disappeared. I have gone through the regedit in order to redirect everything with no luck. I am using XP SP2 and can see my history and feeds, just not my favorites. Please, any advice would be great. |

| Re: Favorites disappearing Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard. Type "shell:favorites" (without quotation marks) in the Run box, and press OK. What is the location (path) of the folder? (You may have to unhide the Address bar in the toolbar of Explorer, to see the path). The default location in XP is C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\Favorites. When you typed that command in Run, however, it may show a different location. It will also probably show that the folder is empty, but this where IE is looking to find your bookmarks. Do a search for "Favorites" on your computer, and find the Favorites folder with all your bookmark links (ignore other Favorites folders you might run across). Select all the links and folders in that folder, Copy them, and Paste them into the Favorites folder that you see when you typed shell:favorites. If your shell Favorites folder isn't in the default location, and you want it to be there, you may have to edit the Registry. Post back for instructions, if you need help. | Re: Favorites disappearing Thanks for the info... and it seems that my reg-edit shell folder for favorites is pointed to the same Address as the shell:favorites went to. I have even gone so far as to remove NoAdware (since it wasn't really working right) thinking it might be a problem there. Still no success. Is there another area in the regedit that I should look? | Re: Favorites disappearing First, make sure the Favorites folder that the shell:favorites command points to isn't hidden (check the Properties of that folder by right-clicking a blank spot in the folder, or go Up a directory and then right-clicking the Favorites folder). Check the value Data for Favorites in these two keys (the data here is for the default location): HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders should have this as its Data (REG_SZ value Type) for Favorites: C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\Favorites HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders should have this as its Data (REG_EXPAND_SZ value Type) for Favorites: %USERPROFILE%\Favorites It's important that the value Type is correct for each entry in the above two keys. The (hidden, system) desktop.ini file in the shell favorites folder should have this, when opened in Notepad: [.ShellClassInfo] IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll IconIndex=-173 LocalizedResourceName=@shell32.dll,-12693 "DeVill" <DeVill@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:DCED6704-BE4D-4CC8-AC5E-8685F11D582B@microsoft.com... > Thanks for the info... and it seems that my reg-edit shell folder for > favorites is pointed to the same Address as the shell:favorites went to. > I > have even gone so far as to remove NoAdware (since it wasn't really > working > right) thinking it might be a problem there.
