Downloading the updates from Microsoft Update fails on installation.
IE7 and other critical fixes. Both of my computers are running XP Media.
Can someone help me please? Someone told me at Best Buy that I have spyware
and/or viruses. I have purchased Trend Micros PC Cyllin Internet security
and it does not find anything. I used to use AVG until last week when I got
a virus on my laptop. Thats when the problems began.
Roght now I am spending endless hours trying to repair/fix/dis-infect my
laptop and protect my home computer which may or may not be infected as it
has always had virus software on it. Please help!

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing Messenger Plus, whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
