Internet Explorer 7: internet options

Using Win XP w/ IE 7.
Under tools then internet options my "delete" for browser history, files,
etc. has stopped working. It just will not do anything. Any suggestions?
Thank you,
Jack

Re: Internet Explorer 7: internet options

Try moving the "Temporary Internet Files" folder under, say, this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\Local Settings\Temp

and then move them back to the default, under this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\(Your Name)\Local Settings

To do this, go to IE7 > Tools > Internet Options. On the General tab, click
on Settings, under "Browsing history". Then click on Move Folder...

Then you have a different problem. victory082 said nothing about "internet
options".
Close IE.
Open Regedit.
Find the value NoBrowserOptions and remove every instance of it.
It is most likely (but not necessarily) to be here:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet Explorer\Restrictions

You might try this from Mike Burgess first if you use SpyBot:
'Did you by chance run SpyBot's Immunize feature?
If so, you can unlock by unchecking the option to "Protect IE Control
Panel".
See http://forums.spywareinfo.com/index.php?showtopic=6748

AdAware, MS Anti-Spyware and other anti-spyware and anti-virus programs may
have similar options.

thank you for your reply. But neither solution seemed to work. I worked my
way through every anti-spyware on my machine to change any setting that
seemed relevant. I even disabled them to see if rectify. Then I tried regedit
and could NOT find "NoBrowserOptions." I have looked through several/many
tech forums and all the threads go nowhere. What should I do? This is driving
me nuts:)

Are you also running WinXP and IE7?

Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

1. Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons;

2. Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer
(No add-ons).

More:

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:

Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?

As you can see, posting history is clearly marked by carats ( > & >>, etc.)
so you needn't post in all caps (which is considered SHOUTING! here).

We /still/ don't know your Windows or IE version.

I must not have entered my reply correctly last night as I had typed in that
"yes, I am running Windows XP Home SP2 and have IE 7. "This problem (internet
options flashing & disappearing) began when Windows, during an automatic
update, upgraded my IE 6 to IE 7 a couple of weeks ago. At this moment I am
using Firefox.

I started IE 7 with no add-ons and the problem persisted. I would have tried
your second solution but I can't access "internet options."

I have tried every tool menu. I have tried control panel. I have gone
through every anti-spyware program on my machine looking for relevant
settings. I have disabled each and every spyware program and re-opened IE7
but the problem persisted. I searched for NoBrowserOptions but couldn't find
that in the registry anywhere.

I see on various other threads on this forum and other forums that there are
other people experiencing this. (Mike51 comes to mind.) Similar threads are
here/there/yonder. . .not aggregated into a topic. I can't find a user who
has solved the problem.

What do you suggest?

Regards, Working Girl

p.s. I should have used a different color font instead of caps last night. I
was trying to insert the answer to each question below your questions. I
couldn't find the right toolbar and resorted to caps. Sorry. I wasn't
shouting. just trying to get task accomplished.

You may have a horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest that
you..,

1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per
http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html

2. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds).

3. Reinstall IE7 per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install,
and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.
