| Cannot accesss internet after upgrade Last week I "upgraded" IE7 and since then have been unable to access the internet through IE7; after a couple hours on the phone with technical support for my DSL provider and computer, we discovered the culprit was IE7. I got a copy of Firefox from my husband and am now running that as my browser. Is there any way to get IE7 running again, or should I just abandon it and use Firefox? | RE: Cannot accesss internet after upgrade I have exactly the same problem. IE7 has just died on me; I re-installed it today and have turned off all add-ons etc and it still does not work. All I get is "connecting to site ..." and 4 or 5 green bars in the loading bar and I never get connected to the web site. |

| RE: Cannot accesss internet after upgrade Try downloading/installing the User Agent String Utility (click on question 4 to see the download link). http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro.../ie/iefaq.mspx Also, try Tools>Internet Options>Connections Tab Click on Lan Settings button Select Automatically Detect Settings Click Ok twice -- Gistcheckin "Scooby Simon" wrote: > I have exactly the same problem. > > IE7 has just died on me; I re-installed it today and have turned off all > add-ons etc and it still does not work. > > All I get is "connecting to site ..." and 4 or 5 green bars in the loading > bar and I never get connected to the web site. > > > > |

Especailly if it took a very long time to complete. That can mean some files were corrupted in the process. You can go to add/remove programs and uninstall the upgrade and that will usually fix it. If the install actually completed successfully without corruption. You need to go in and reconfigure the home page, setup trusted sites etc. IE 7 has enhanced security features and will block many things unless you explicitly say you want to go here or there. Go to tools, options and check out the security tab. Good luck. |

It did that again each time I turned my computer off for a couple days and then no longer worked. I'll try uninstalling if I can find the upgrade. Christine > > > |

Okay, I tried to uninstall the upgrade but got a message that an error had occurred and it could not be uninstalled (although I was given the option of removing its name from the list...now what? There are two approaches you can take. Download IE7 to your desktop and then try to install it again. If it downloads completely and runs locally it has a much better chance of working correctly or at least working to the point where it will uninstall properly. The other approach is using a restore point please follow this link for information on using restore point. It frequently solves the problem in a hurry. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...w_03may19.mspx |

| Re: Cannot accesss internet after upgrade Okay, I uninstalled IE7, reinstalled it and now it works fine; I would think they'd get these bugs sorted out before foisting them on the unsuspecting public. Leonard, I can't answer your question; IE7 ran fine until I installed the latest update and then would no longer access the internet. Christine |
