best security settings

Can someone tell me how to make sure IE7 is set to very high security
settings for internet buying. I will use opera I think for normal web
surfing, if however I can combine the 2 by adding all my normal sites so IE7
works fast, then that is cool.

regards

krishan

The following table describes the four Internet Explorer security zones.

Zone
Description

Internet
The level of security set for the Internet zone is applied to all websites
by default. The security level for this zone is set to Medium High (but you
can change it to either Medium or High). The only websites for which this
security setting is not used are those in the Local intranet zone or sites
that you specifically entered into the Trusted or Restricted site zones.

Local intranet
The level of security set for the Local intranet zone is applied to
websites and content that is stored on a corporate or business network. The
security level for the Local intranet zone is set to Medium (but you can
change it to any level).

Trusted sites
The level of security set for Trusted sites is applied to sites that you
have specifically indicated to be ones that you trust not to damage your
computer or information. The security level for Trusted sites is set to
Medium (but you can change it to any level).

Restricted sites
The level of security set for Restricted sites is applied to sites that
might potentially damage your computer or your information. Adding sites to
the Restricted zone does not block them, but it prevents them from using
scripting or any active content. The security level for Restricted sites is
set to High and can't be changed.

NoteIn addition to the default security levels, you can also customize
individual security settings by clicking the Custom level button.

So does that mean that if I allow active X content so I don't get beeped at
when I try to load an off line webpage I have stored to disk I'll be setting
myself up for potential hijacking of my browser?

Re: best security settings

No. It means what it says. Active X controls may be necessary for web
content to be viewed properly.

Then I CAN allow the active X controls and avoid that annoying warning when
I load up a locate on disk file? I want to be sure of this. I'm a little
paranoid these days because I was hacked. They hijacked my browser and the
only way I could get rid of the worm (made by the worms) was to reformat my
Harddrive. Fortunately I back up all the time.

Re: best security settings

Is it a known site? Do you trust the site? If the answer is yes, then add
the active x control.

Well yes. It's a known site. It's my own computer. An html file on disk. Can
you selective tell IE7 which "locations" are OK? Can you allow active X
controls for the local disk? If so, how do you do it?

You can do it one of two ways, either add the mark of the web to your local
HTML document:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537628.aspx

OR

Click on Tools||Internet Options||Advanced
Under the Security section, put a checkmark in the box next to:
"Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"

Good luck,

Donald Anadell
