| RE: Useless back button I'm having the same problem with a simple asp.net 2 application. The interesting thing is that on my local machine there is no problem but when accessing the website from the ISPs server then there is a problem. The client browser (IE7) and machine are the same and the application is the same. This suggests that there might be something in IIS that might be different? These web pages do no have an 'expire' clause in the HTML HEAD. | RE: Useless back button I am having the same problem as ProfessorPiggy. It just started in the last month or so and it is driving me crazy. The back button constantly takes me to the webpage expired message. Happens mostly on shopping sites. Contacted one webmaster and they said it was an ISP problem! It's interesting that it constantly happens with IE7 and infrequently with Firefox. Haven't been able to locate any support information that has helped to date. If it can't be remedied I will definitely make Firefox my browser. "Dave Barkshire" wrote: > I'm having the same problem with a simple asp.net 2 application. | RE: Useless back button I tried your suggestion and it seemed to work for a few minutes but that is all. Tried other options available there except for "never" but none worked. Am still having the same problem today. It is so frustrating!!! It has certainly taken the fun out of browsing/shopping. I am not a novice computer user and have always been able to remedy a problem but this one has me at a loss. I recently updated my Norton Security Suite but I was having this problem before that, I think. Am ready to uninstall Norton and try McAfee. I'm sure it started happening after some update of something or other. I find it hard to believe that more people aren't having this same problem. HELP PLEASE!!! | Re: Useless back button I tried Work Offline and Never, neither worked. I don't have FiddlerTool and am not familiar with it. Searched it and was going to download it but I'm not feeling comfortable with it. It seems a little above my expertise level although would not be afraid to try it with guidance. Would it help remedy the situation? Would referring the site's webmaster to this conversation be of help? | Re: Useless back button This happens throughout this site as well as others. Here is just one link. Choose the item size and color, add to shopping cart then hit the back button to choose a different color of the same item. Webpage expired message appears. It just doesn't do it when placing items in cart either. Just navigate through site, do a search, check out items, shop... etc. hit back button frequently. Like I said this happens on other sites as well. This may not work as a link but is the address for one of the many problem pages. | Re: Useless back button As I said, I have been shopping this site for years and this never happened before. So if I understand you correctly, the developers must have changed the site and there is nothing I can do to remedy this and/or is it because IE just started enforcing some rules!? I haven't been able to reproduce the symptom at that site. E.g. (surprisingly) Back implemented by the browser works. Often you have to rely on the site's UI providing a Back button (e.g. in the page, implemented using Javascript). I even saw an example of that on one of the pages I got. Do the pages which give you the problem symptom have a Back button in them? If so, use them. Alternatively, use any other link in the page which effects the same thing. In fact, depending on how a site is designed using its Back button will give you better functionality (e.g. better potential for saved values and field focus) than by just using the browser's Back function. Another thing that works particularly well on search sites (but won't work on this site because the links seem to be mostly implemented by Javascript functions) is to open the link in a new tab or window, e.g. hold down a Ctrl- key or a Shift- key when clicking on a link when you know that you want to return to the launching page. In that case you achieve the same effect of Back by closing the tab or window. HTH Robert --- |
