(KB931768) my navcancl & ieframe.dll related issue is finally solv

If you use Vista and have a similar kinda issue of latest KB931768, which
cause IE7 stopped working with a popping up window, indicating some navcancl
& ieframe.dll related issue, you may follow my instruction to fix that. IMO,
this issue is caused by a non-default temporary internet files' folder.

0. Check my previouse thread to see if you have the same issue as I had.
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/com...=en-us&m=1&p=1

1.Maybe you need to change the folder options in control panel -> folder
options and turn off those hiding system & hiden files related settings.

2. Access control panel -> internet options -> general->history section->
settings, to see if your Temporary Internet Files folder is in its default
folder. The default folder should be like :
C:\Users\%USER_NAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windo ws\Temporary Internet
Files (default folder may vary in WindowsXP)

3. If it is not in a default folder format, change it to
C:\Users\%YOUR_USER_NAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ Windows\. IE7 will
automatically copy the temp files to
C:\Users\%YOUR_USER_NAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\ Windows\Temporary Internet
Files by restarting windows.

4. Reapply the KB931768 patch ,if u have uninstalled it and turn on your
phishing filer. Restart IE7 to see if it works.

If, by any luck, it is OK in this way, come here and tell me.
After two days of research on this, I am totally exhaused and pissed off. I
am not Okay with MS. I paid every penny for Vista and every feature on this
OS. But they don't do it as well as they are supposed to do. Why didn't MS
test this patch in various situations? They give us an option and should make
sure it can work with no conflic with it's own functions and settings!

A simpler solution:

1) Don't apply the upgrade (or uninstall it if you already applied this
crap).

2) Stay away from any but reputable web sites.

The problem has been solved by changing the temporary internet files folder
to the default folder.

That's a workaround, not a solution.

Yeah, the bug is still there. But by doing as I mentioned earlier, you
needn't change any other settings, like IE protection mode or phishing filter
or running as administrator. And there is no security compromise.

I think MS guys should know where it goes wrong, and how it goes wrong. And
fix it ASAP. I don't like TIF files left on my C drive. They always cause
fragment on disk.

I just killed the windows automatic update process, because it wanted to
restart the computer and install the same crap. I also changed my
settings to insure that I get to make the decision on what gets installed.

I try to keep applications and data on separate drives. It keeps the
apps drive tidy. I am not going to change my computer management style
because someone at MS had a brain fart.

lol I agree with you. I want keep everything tidy, too.
You has the judgement call on what to use and how to use it.

If you change the folder back to the default to install the update as
you describe, can you then change the folder back to what you want? Or
does the problem then reoccur? I understand if you'd rather not risk it ;o)

Yeah, this problem happens again, if I change the TIF folder to some other
place other than the default directory.

Re: (KB931768) my navcancl & ieframe.dll related issue is finally

Same here Feliks.

I prefer TIF away from the boot/os/programs drive (well away from it).

My workaround is:

Avant browser as default (yep it works through the mishap) with the 'fox for
other stuff.

I am sure IE will settle down soon.

Re: (KB931768) my navcancl & ieframe.dll related issue is finally

The great thing is one may pick and choose.

Should IE choose to go sulky it is an excellent opportunity to try something
else.

I'm back to my favoured arrangement after being distracted from IE6 to IE7.

I think I may soon see similar things happening in Safari?

RE: (KB931768) my navcancl & ieframe.dll related issue is finally solv

I had the same issue. I couldn't see how turning phishing off would fix it,
since phishing has never worked since I installed IE7 and I had it already
off. I set the temporary internet files folder (I have XP Home Edition) back
to the default and whoopee!!! Now my phisihing filter works and I was able
to install the latest security update and turn my windows automatic updates
back on. Shame on Microsoft!
