Give a specific example. You are more likely to get this symptom when
the image is non-cacheable.

Re: IE7 "save picture as" is limited to only BMP format

Here are steps to reproduce:

1. start ie7
2. visit:
http://ca.search.yahoo.com/search/im...f4c78&ei=UTF-8
3. click on view image (this will show whale_seagulls.jpg
4. right click on the image, select Save Picture As...
5. Save Picture common dialog appears with Filename "untitled.bmp" and save
as "bitmap"

- Please note the above link was arrived by simply searching for whale in
yahoo.com images. Ive seen this with other images as well.

- Note that I am sometimes able to save files in jpg or other formats...

Hope this helps,
Pete from toronto.

Before trying to use this (as a general tip when trying to do other image
captures) I suggest you:
1. Set Work Offline (Alt-F,W)
2. Load About:Blank over top of the page with the image
(e.g. if your Home page is that, just press Alt-Home)
3. Go back (Alt-CursorLeft)
4. If the page restores without Red-X then you know that it is completely cached.

In this particular case the "page" is a single image file,
so doing that proves that the file has been cached.

> 4. right click on the image, select Save Picture As...

Yes. That works fine. Another thing that also works and gives you a slightly
different perspective on the situation is right-click E-mail Picture...
Doing that gives me a .jpg attachment in an OE E-mail composition window
Whale_seagulls.jpg (1.37 MB)

> 5. Save Picture common dialog appears with Filename "untitled.bmp" and save
> as "bitmap"

As both Leonard and I indicated that symptom would be due to the file not
being saved in your TIF. Since the file for your example is apparently cacheable
if it is not being saved in your TIF the most likely reason is that your TIF is either full
or corrupt; in either case you should try clearing it and then see if your symptoms change.
Alternatively, you could run FileMon filtering on iexplore*temp to see
exactly what is going on in there (assuming that your TIF is conventionally
named or at least contains the string temp somewhere in its path.) Etc.

Good luck

Robert

I am having the same problem. Have you been to solve this issue? In Mozilla
Firefox, I am able to save in PNG format, but not so in IE 7.

Re: IE7 "save picture as" is limited to only BMP format

I save temporary Internet files on a regular basis, and this has never solved
the problem for me. What I've noticed is that when I try to save an image,
different formats are offered at different times. My problem is that certain
images that I am able to save in PNG format in other programs (e.g., Mozilla
FireFox) are not offered in PNG format by Internet Explorer version 7.

If I save an image in BMP format in IE 7, however, I am then able to convert
it by opening the file in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and saving it in PNG
format, but this requires additional, time-consuming, steps.
