| cannot download large files to F: because C: has not enough free disk space?! I try to download a large file (Orcas beta 1 CTP) to drive F:, which has several GB free disk space. However, it seems like IE7 is writing the file to C: first, and it later moves the file to F:. This is stupid for 2 reasons: 1) I cannot download the file because I don't have enough free space on C:. Why do I need free space on C:, when I want to save the file to F:? 2) It's much slower, because it has to move the file to F: after the download. This step would not be necessary if it saved the file to F: from the beginning. How can I change that? Is there a way to download large files without saving them to C: first? I'm using IE7 on Vista Ultimate. Thanks, Mathias |

Files are written there first, then moved to the final location. > How can I change that? Is there a way to download large files without > saving them to C: first? You could change the location of the Temporary Internet Files folder in the IE settings, however this will still mean that the file is downloaded to the TIF, and then moved to where you want it (although moving a file on the same hard disk is a very quick process). Or you could use a separate download manager problem like GetRight or Download Accelerator Pro - these also have the added benefit of being able to resume downloads should the connection be interrupted, and are much better at handling large files. Thanks. Changing the temporary internet files location is not an option, I want to download files to an external USB hard disk that is not always connected. Then I guess I will have to use 3rd party tools :(. Mathias |
