| Can't download from IE6 - Connection Reset Good morning! We can't download anything from IE 6. We have Windows XP Pro SP2, fully patched. In IE, I click download and choose where to save. The download looks like it starts OK, but the bar doesn't move and eventually I get an error "The connection with the server was reset". This happens with any type of file and from all sources I've tried so far. Firefox downloads fine, but it's not approved for general use here, so that's not an option. I took a traffic capture to get a feel for what is going on, and I see my PC send an RST packet during the download, effectively resetting it. I tried running the netsh winsock reset command to reset the Winsock catalog to the default configuration. No dice. Does anyone have any other suggestions? It's driving me batty! Thanks! Amy |

| Re: Can't download from IE6 - Connection Reset An outside firewall, but couldn't find anything that would block this sort of traffic. Locally, I'm running Symantec Antivirus. No firewall software (Windows firewall is disabled). | Re: Can't download from IE6 - Connection Reset Nope...no download manager. I'm installing the base OS on a couple of machines tonight to see if I can get it work off a clean install tomorrow and if I can get it to break at a certain point. More importantly, what happened before that? E.g. was the transfer started? finished? waiting for the other side? Waiting a long time? Etc. Also, since you have two cases, IE and Firefox, equally important would be what happens differently when it's working? > > I tried running the netsh winsock reset command to reset the Winsock > catalog to the default configuration. No dice. What does that mean? The command wasn't allowed or didn't change your symptom? Have you tried any of the other netsh reset commands? This one at least gives some feedback about whether it changes something: <example> >netsh int ip reset /? Usage: reset [name=]<string> Parameters: Tag Value name - The name of a file to which to append information regarding what settings were reset. Remarks: Resets TCP/IP and related components to a clean state. </example> Note: I think that doing this is fairly benign but unless your trace clearly shows that your side is at fault at a transport level I don't think it will help much. E.g. then it would be more difficult to understand how the other browser could work in the same environment. > Does anyone have any > other suggestions?
