| Installation problem I uninstalled IE 7, and then tried to install it again. When I finished, it told me it could not finish reinstalling. It gave me a link to try to troubleshoot it. It gave me four things to try, but nothing worked. Any ideas? |

| Re: Installation problem Hi Brett: The steps that Sandi has kindly reproduced are pretty much standard procedure for upgrading your operating system. There's actually even more to it than that, if you're being really careful. You would do pretty much the same thing if you were installing a service pack or any other substantial upgrade to Windows. Once you've been working with computers for a while these steps become almost second nature. To put it another way: It takes a lot of time and effort to make good chicken soup. But the results are definitely worth it. Here too. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est brett wrote: > Sandi's installation tips looks as though it should be titled "Install if > you dare!". | Re: Installation problem Perhaps installing/uninstalling in Safe Mode, rebooting twice (into Windows) after each action? (This would mean downloading & saving the installer, vs "running" it.) Upgrading IE is a /major/ system upgrade: You don't want anything running in the background that might interfere with the changes being made. Upgrading to IE6 SP1 in Win9x needed to be handled the same way. -- ~PA Bear brett wrote: > Sandi's installation tips looks as though it should be titled "Install if > you dare!". I've managed to install it without any problems on my desktop and my daughters laptop, which is much older and less capable than mine. It goes through all the install steps, then at the very end says it failed and I have to reboot to remove it. The IE7 log always ends up something like this: > quote 124.359: DoInstallation: Installing assemblies with source root path: g:\bff86e7e08dad631375e43db8cea2dc7\ 124.359: Num Ticks for Copying files : 30656 135.156: DoRegistryUpdates:UpdSpInstallFromInfSection Failed for ProductInstall.GlobalRegistryChanges.Install error: 0x5 135.156: INF_REGISTRY Failed 135.156: DoInstallation:DoRegistryUpdates failed 135.391: Access is denied. 135.391: Internet Explorer 7 installation did not complete. | Re: Installation problem It looks like some application is disallowing the necessary Registry changes to be made (e.g., anti-virus/anti-spyware application; third-party firewall).
