| Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP Every time I try to download the above update, I get an error message saying it was unable to install it. What gives? I have everything on automatic. The other day I was using IE7 and clicked on favorites to bring up a website, and it did nothing. It appeared to have frozen in that it wasn't going anywhere, but I was able to X out of IE7. When I tried to come into IE7, it wouldn't finish loading the screens. I also have Netscape 8.1 on my computer for times like this, and had to use it to try to get IE7 back. I'm beginning to not like IE7 and wasn't planning on updating but it came up with another update on the Windows Update screen and I did not have an option to deselect IE7. |

| Re: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows I'm using auto updates. It was the last one that popped up just this morning. It had a KB # with it, but I don't remember what it was. It kept popping up all morning to install, and I would try and it kept saying it was unsuccessful. Finally, it went away and hasn't come back, but it probably will when I reboot my ccmputer again. | Re: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows I had been using IE6 when it started acting funky the other day. I couldn't get IE6 back properly, so I did the update so I could get something to work with, and I only got that by using Netscape to get there. Actually, I kind of like Netscape better, BUT they are not responsive and I can't even get signed into their message boards WITH my CORRECT password. :( Anyway, I really do not want to go back to IE6 unless I have major problems with IE7. I like the tabs feature--I just wish the toolbar was more versatile so I could lay it out like IE6 with the address bar on the bottom. I have IE7 version 20061107.210142 and NO updates--the updates would not install. I have to go. I'll be back. IE6 is not listed, but IE7 is listed in the add/remove programs in the control panel. Netscape is, though. I noticed that when I found the exe file for what I thought was IE6, all of the folders and filenames were blue rather than black like everything else. | Re: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows Update Win XP KB90942, 4/9/07 Security Update Win XP KB925902, 4/4/07 Update Win XP KB929338, 3/15/07 Update Windows Media Player 10 KB926251, 2/26/07 Security Update Win XP KB913580, 2/25/07 Yes, Automatic Updates is enabled. I let it download and ask before installing in case I'm in the middle of something important, because sometimes the updates ask you to reboot, and I can't always do that right then. | Re: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows You're missing at least (2) Security Updates for IE7. This suggests that you have a horked (dirty) install of IE7. I suggest reading the following link... http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install ....and then uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 per Sandi's tips, and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. Also see: IEBlog : IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx After uninstalling/reinstalling *exactly* per the above, check in at Windows Update and install all critical updates offered. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin; DTS-L.org Rainbow Services wrote: > Update Win XP KB90942, 4/9/07 > Security Update Win XP KB925902, 4/4/07 > Update Win XP KB929338, 3/15/07 > Update Windows Media Player 10 KB926251, 2/26/07 > Security Update Win XP KB913580, 2/25/07 > > Yes, Automatic Updates is enabled.
