| Re: Blocking a URL Specifically this refers to one url: www.symantec.com. If I try to access this link, I get a blank window in IE (the status bar at the bottom says done) but nothing appears. If I go to www.norton.com, and then hover over the support link, my status bar says: http://www.%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20.%20%20%20 It's very odd. I thought I had added my own posting (I was just going to point you to that) but it doesn't appear to be here... either it's being reviewed or I did something wrong. Depends entirely on what the blocker does and how it works. Some will "block" the dns or HTTP request leading to the generic "page failed" message, others will redirect to another URL or replace to contents. -- Dean Earley (dean.earley@icode.co.uk) i-Catcher Development Team iCode Systems |

| Re: Blocking a URL %20 is HTML code for a blank. There is a virus that, among other things, tries to prevent you from accessing the web sites of anti-virus program vendors. You may be infected with this virus or a variant. You may also want to check your HOSTS file to see if the URL in question has been re-directed. This is almost certainly the sign of a malware infection. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Pegz wrote: > Specifically this refers to one url: www.symantec.com. | Re: Blocking a URL Thanks. I will check this when I get home tonight. I have had Norton Internet Security 2007 and AVG both running and scanning daily. It would surprise me if I had one - but then again- I have no other ideas. Where will I find that Hosts file? I searched my drive last night and saw many names with Host in it. No LMHosts - like I expected though. | Re: Blocking a URL It's a mistake to have two antivirus programs on your computer. This reduces your security. Choose the one you want an uninstall the other. The Hosts file has no extension and is located inside the windows\system32\ folder. You can view it with Notepad. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Pegz wrote: > Thanks. | Re: Blocking a URL I have no experience with AVG and I long ago stopped using anything with the name 'Norton' in it. I use Kaspersky AntiVirus. But so what? Just because I use a product is no endorsement. Read about different antivirus programs on the internet and then decide what seems best for you. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Pegz wrote: > Ok - thanks. > > Now do you recommend one over the other? > > "Leonard Grey" wrote: > >> It's a mistake to have two antivirus programs on your computer.
