| Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. I get this error when my computer starts before anything in the system tray loads. This is happening on 2 identical brand new computers with no additional software installed. It seems everything is fine until I run all the windows updates. Then this happens. I have tried reverting to an earlier restore point, I have tried restoring with the restore cd that came from the manufacturer, I also tried doing a fresh format and install of xp. Here is what is showing up in event viewer at the moment. I have uninstalled IE 7 hence the version discrepency. I can provide the large amount of dr.watson data if necessary. I had only installed F-secure antivirus. I then put it on the domain, and commenced windows updates. When they finished the problem began. If I don't do windows updates the computer is fine, but unfit to be on the network. Currently I have restored one to factory defaults and am installing the windows updates on it one at a time to see exactly which one is causing the problem. |

| Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close You may have a horked install of IE7. I suggest reading the following link... http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install ....and then uninstalling and reinstalling IE7 per Sandi's tips, and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close I have reformatted and reinstalled the os. Did all the windows updates. started adding our additional software. I was 2 programs away from being finished and the error popped up. Ie wasn't even open. I've no reinstalled from scratch numerous times, I tried a different HD, tested the ram, even tried a different computer. Here is the error that appeared in event viewer. The faulting module info seems to be missing and I can't find anything online that corresponds with those error codes. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close I'm at my wits end here. The error comes up at random. IE doesn't even need to be open at the time. It's come up before I've logged into the domain.. How am I supposed to troubleshoot this when it avoids telling me what actually caused the problem?? Anyone have any suggestions?? | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close 1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start IE7 in No Add-ons mode: Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons). More: Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx 2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 3. If you uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), does this behavior persist? Uninstalling IE7 http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177 IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx -- ~PA Bear Don wrote: > Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16414, faulting module > , > version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. > > "PA Bear" wrote: > >> OK, we know your Windows version. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close 1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? Yes. This problem occurs at random with no programs open. I've even had it occur while waiting at the logon splash screen before I logged into the domain. 2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 Yes. This had no impact on it. 3. If you uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), does this behavior persist? Yes, It persists. The only difference is that the error message that pops up the version is different. Everything else is the same so instead of this: Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 7.0.6000.16414, faulting module , version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. I see this: Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module , version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000. I have been successful in removing this error. However it involves me reformatting, reinstalling windows, installing all the windows updates except ie7, then install all my software. Everything works flawless until I try to install ie 7. Immediately after rebooting after installing it the error appears. It doesn't matter if I install it via microsoft updates, or if I use the stand alone installer.. I'm currently having this issue on 3 different brand new 4610s desktops from gateway with core 2 duo's. The error has no rhyme or reason. I've left the computers running for long periods of time just sitting at the desktop. The error pops up at random while sitting there displaying the screen saver. I've seen it in as little as a few minutes, I've also seen it pop up after running for hours. It's quite frustrating. |

How can that be happening? Check your startup. E.g. temporarily eliminate all instances of iexplore.exe (or things which lead to it) being started automatically. Tip: Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter): msinfo32 /category SWEnvStartupPrograms FWIW I think you can see more possibilities that way than (for example) just using msconfig and its Startup tab. | Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close > How can that be happening? Check your startup. E.g. temporarily eliminate > all instances of iexplore.exe (or things which lead to it) being started automatically. I've checked startup via the method you described. It contains: FSecure Manager FSecure TNB utility Winvnc Desktop.ini That's all, as far as I know none of those resolve to iexplore.exe. We have had some initial success by disabling the "core multiplexing technology" setting in the bios. We've managed to keep a computer all weekend without seeing the error once this setting was turned off. Seeing this we immediately upgraded the machines to the newest bios revision listed on gateway's site for this model. No luck, still errors. One of the machines has been a bit more predictable than most and would display the error shortly after logon. After disabling the "core multiplexing technology" setting in the bios the computer boots without error. I will keep this running through out the day to see if this continues. Any thoughts on this new development? |

| Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close The core multiplexing technology setting seems to be the issue. I haven't seen the error return since disabling it.. I have no idea why IE 7 would have a problem with this as there appear many other happy core 2 duo owners out there.. I can only chalk it up to bad motherboard drivers at this point. |
