IE7 takes a minute to open online Office documents

Hello,

I have some of my files on a website and I use them quite often. IE7 however
takes a minute or so to open the files. When I click on a link to a document
a small window appears behind the IE window that says downloading "filename".
After about a minute a word/excel windows opens with my document. You can
probably see that I am not very happy with waiting so long for such a simple
task.

I tried opening the files with IE without any add-ons and the result was the
same.

I also installed Firefox 2 and it does not have this problem - it opens the
documents in a second. This leads me to the conclusion that it is not a
problem with the antivirus or any other external software, but with IE.

I cannot find however any settings in IE7 that might cause this problem.
Does anybody else experience this problem? And, more importantly, does
anybody have a solution for it?

The problem is on a one-week old Dell Inspiron 6400 with Vista. Windows
Defender is off. Phishing is off. Symantec 10.2 is on.

Thank you
