| Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer I upgraded my laptop (Gateway MD7818U) to Windows 7....but after I did, i got the webcam driver error. Thinking it was a Windows 7 problem, i reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit I still get the error. So does anyone know how to fix the error? I emailed gateway support, but they have not replied to my emails. |

| Re: Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer Hi guys, I had the exact same problem as you, I searched and found nothing so I took the last measure available and restored to factory state using the partition that is created as backup (unless you formatted your entire HD you must have this one even if you did a clean install on C), anyway got my webcam working again and this time i did an UPGRADE to Windows 7, long story short its all back to normal, I also took the precaution this time to burn my "Apps & Drivers" recovery disk, from that disk I took out the folder that contained the webcam drivers (just a matter of copy paste) anyway I rared the folder and upped it to rapidshare, hope this helps anyone who finds themselves in this situation in the future, here's the link: RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting |

| Re: Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer Hello Everyone, I also have the Gateway MD7818u. I used the driver on the gateway website for windows 7 and this didn't work. This is Webcam_Chicony(AP)_v1.7.71.100 6_win7x86x64 and when I try running the setup the computer says that the camera is not recognized. I then tried the driver put here by Seyru and the driver setup worked. The problem is that in the Camera Assistant Software, when I press the Start Camera button, nothing happens... At this point I am not sure what the problem is. The camera was working before I reinstalled vista and upgrading to windows 7. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | Re: Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer When you click on the camera button in the driver assistant try leaving your mose directly in the button, i.e. dont move it right away after clickin cause oddly sometimes it won't recognize the click, no idea why but it happens to me, on the other hand you could try some software like a IM app to check if it works, when i was testing i used MSN and i hit the "Webcam Picture" button and if it recognizes your camera there then you are good to go, I did try the official windows 7 driver, and if you ask the gateway support team for the drivers that's the link they'll give you (even if you ask for the vista ones). Now reinstalling vista by itself does nothing to get your drivers back since the problem I suspect you have is you did a clean install which mean you have to go back to factory state to get your drivers back, you should have a small partition in your disk that keeps an image so you can go back to the state even if you never burned the backup disk (this partition does not show up in the explorer), now I'm not entirely sure how to acces it, you got to select it when booting, I was able to select it because i installed backtrack (ubuntu OS with hacking tools) in my machine and it came with GrubLoader which lets you select different OS at boot up, so if nothing works I suggest you get Grubloader and try installing it it should detect both your current OS (windows 7) and the factory state image. One quick way to check if you've got the Recovery partition is to go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, Select Computer Management, in the new window select disk management, now in this window you should see the partitions in your hard drive, to the left of your C partition you should see one with 10 G that has no name but is described as "Healthy (Recovery Partition). |

| Re: Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer Just in case anyone is interested here's a link to how to boot into the recovery partition from gateway support so you can do a Full Factory Recovery. ??????????????????? Note that this completely wipes out C so you might want to back up your files or move them to a different partition (e.g. D if you have it). This will certainly get your webcam working, after that if you want windows 7 make sure to do an UPGRADE. |
