problems with second sata drive

Hi, I have just fitted a second SATA 160 gig hard drive to my Win XP
Home PC. It was recognized and I formatted it with NTFS which went ok.
I also have a USB 160 gig HD connected. The problem is that the system
won't restart, it hangs at the XP screen (with the progress bar) and
never gets any further. If I hold down the power button to switch off,
then switch it on again it goes to the menu screen from which I select
"Start windows normally" and it boots fine. But if I try to restart it
from Shut down/restart it hangs. If I disconnect the new drive it
behaves normally.
The new disk is a Maxtor 160gig sata
My original disk is a Maxtor 160gig sata
Mel..

Re: problems with second sata drive

Mel, Your Sata drives may not be set up right as when you boot up your
computer both Sata Drives think there the primary drive and thats where
it hangs, when you turn it off and then back on it will give you the
option of choosing a normal start up or not (at this point the original
hard drive is found to be the primary). If your hard drives are the
same as mine when you turn on your computer and it starts to boot up
you can hit F3 and define which SATA hard drive will be the primary and
which will be the secondary. Hoepfully this info helps
