fixing an E-machine computer, blown motherboard

I got a blown E machine computer form a client, form what I can tell teh
motherboard is dead (won't turn on, tried new power supply still nothing)
it's an older celeron so if I'm going to replace the board I might as well
upgrade the chip as well. now, his hard drive is still fine and needs all
his data. I've read problems with E-machines switching motherboards with an
existing install of XP, problem is I can't just reinstall it because
E-machines doesn't give a CD, it's a seperate partition with a drive image.
and if I tell my client to buy a new copy of XP, it's cheap to just buy a
new computer (a dell or something). any suggestions?has anyone replaced a
motherboard on an E-machines under these circumstances?
