| No Video, Help Hello, I am trying to get a friends E Machine going, she has no video. I really don't know to much about repairing computer, but I am trying to learn. I also had to put in a new power supply because the fan stopped working, I don't know if this some how had anything to do with the problem with the video. There are no beeps when I try to boot up, video is build in the motherboard, I tried installing a couple different video cards and did not get anywhere doing that. The Motherboard is a FIC AM37, could it be the motherboard is shot??. I also am trying to fine out why a Compaq that belongs to another friend keeps on rebooting, it has the same type of motherboard that the one above has. It acts like it's possessed, it starts on it own and then shuts down on it own, it might run for 15-30 seconds then shut down and maybe 3-4 seconds after it shuts down it will start up again. the longest it has run at one time is about 10 minutes before shutting down again. I have tried 2 new power supplies, but that did nothing to help the problem. I can't keep it running long enough to try and run any diagnostic program, like to check the memory or whatever I could find out. Thanks for any help I can get. Charley Please remove the remove_me from my address if replying buy email |

If your getting no POST codes (beeps) on startup it could be the motherboard or processor (CPU). It could also be the power switch I'm not familiar with the machine but you should be getting 12V from the switch to the motherboard, (trace the wires) if you have a multimeter you can check that. If you get no power replace the switch. If you are getting voltage then test the motherboard and CPU Try booting the computer with everything disconnected from the motherboard. If you are not sure where or how it connects, taking a picture before removal helps. Remove all add on cards, drive cables (only from the motherboard side), power connections to the drives.Remove the memory as well. Leave the fans connected if there are any. The computer should start and give 8 beeps (no memory). Since you replaced the power supply it's probably safe to assume that it is working correctly. If it doesnt power up then its either the board or CPU. At this point I usually replace motherboard, memory and CPU to be safe, but bring it in if you are not sure to get it looked at by a repair shop. It never hurts to get a second pair of eyes on it >>I also am trying to fine out why a Compaq that belongs to another friend >>keeps on rebooting, it has the same type of motherboard that the one above >>has. >>It acts like it's possessed, it starts on it own and then shuts down on it >>own, it might run for 15-30 seconds then shut down and maybe 3-4 seconds >>after it shuts down it will start up again. the longest it has run at one >>time is about 10 minutes before shutting down again. >>I have tried 2 new power supplies, but that did nothing to help the >>problem. >>I can't keep it running long enough to try and run any diagnostic program, >>like to check the memory or whatever I could find out. Are you rinnng XP? Check the Microsoft Knowledgebase for that issue if you are (KB314466) It could also be a hardware conflict if you have installed any new hardware or drivers Hope that helps |
