Can someone explain how a keygenerator works?

I assume you mean a key gen as in for unlocking "pay-for" software.

how it works .. well a "cracker" will debug the program until he finds
the key checking routeen once he has worked it out, all he needs to do
is rip it out of the program or create a new program with the same
algorithm.
