Louis Daguerre unwittingly (and randomly) made full color (white light source) holograms with his process; this was in the early to mid 1800s. As far as i know, ther has been no attempt to reproduce the effect. As a note, i believe it was a thickness hologram; each color would create its own (layered from top to bottom) interference pattern, and since multiple color would independently do that, the true spectral content was captured. Naturally, since this was a wet emulsion process, one would have to keep the emulsion wet in order to preserve the original spectra. So... If this theory was known then, the "Breaking News" would be a story about holographic memory. Therfore, this recent news alluded to is slightly out of date... |
