Lost connection between icon & program

Suddenly I am no longer able to access my WordPerfect 6.0 program. I
click on the icon, on the desktop, but all I get is the WordPerfect
opening page flash on for a split second, then it vanishes & I' m back
to the desktop. I try to open WordPerfect in other ways but the
results is the same. I don't have this program with any other program.
What has happened? How can I regain access to my program.

Re: Lost connection between icon & program

What operating system are you using, when did this happen, (after installing
a program, etc...) and can you trace the path to the word perfect directory
and try the .exe file from there?

Assuming you have tried running the .exe file from the Word Perfect
directory and you cannot do a restore (Win Me or newer) then you need to
reinstall Word Perfect because a .dll file has been changed or corrupted

Re: Lost connection between icon & program

My OS is WinXP. This happened years after installing & years of use.
The program is still there because I've seen it on Search & My
Computer. I had thought of reinstall & it had been suggested to me but
I've been hoping I wouldn't have to. The process is so cumbersome.
But moreover I want to know WHY this happened to prevent it from
happening again. I don't want to reinstall just to reinstall again &
again. I'll do that .exe file trace as soon as I learn how to do it.

Re: Lost connection between icon & program

What I was suggesting with the ".exe trace" is that you look in the
WordPerfect folder for the executable file (wp.exe, I believe) and see if
you can run it from there. This would rule out a problem with the shortcut
on your desktop.
Also check Corel's website for help there may be the same error listed in
their support forums

Re: Lost connection between icon & program

I tried that with My Computer, then with Search. The results were the
same. Anyhoo, I did a system restore & have been able to access
WordPerfect since. But it still doesn't tell me the cause & how to
prevent it from happening again. Thanks for your help. I'll print out
your message to look up in the future.

Re: Lost connection between icon & program

A day after my last post, I lost the connection again. That, along
with so many other PC problems, prompted my to call in the Geek Squad.
The problem was that my computer was thoroughly infected. The only
solution was to wipe the hard drive & start all over. It's been
working perfectly since then.

HEADS UP: DO NOT download Xoftware or NoAdware. Instead of blocking
viruses, spyware, & popups, they open the system to let them all in
until the computer can't function.
