Converting DVD to Internet

I can't believe that it has to be this hard!
Please,
What should I convert a short DVD (a black and white short film) ( on
my hard drive, the files are marked .vob) so that it is most compatible

for all internet viewers? I google grouped it for two days and couldn't

figger it out. What is the best software tool to do this??

What should one convert to, to get maximum comp[atibility with all
internet users?

convert to divx/.avi?

DIVX? ( which is, I believe, is many codecs wrapped together, right?)
to be opened in Windows Media Player?

A little .mov file? (Quicktime)

A Real media File? ( real media)

An mpeg 4 file wrapped in a Flash Movie

Gizmo Schlo's Feelgood Mc Media Player?

Here's what I did:

I converted the DVD ( .vob RIGHT?)
to an .avi file with Nero software and
I guess it made it an .avi file with the DIVX-codec-wrap file that some

internet users couldn't open. I put it up on my site with Dreamweaver.

AOL-ers could see it,
people with an all-around player such as the Video Lan Player
could see it.

yet some savvy internet friends couldn't make it open:

in Quicktime

or non-divx-codec installed machines?!

Or Firefox

For all I know, or (or don't know to be more precise) only Windows XP
users with the most up-to-date Windows Media Player could have even
seen it. It really shouldn't be this hard Mr. Gates, Mr. Jobs and the
countless code-writers and software
geniuses.

Thank you in advance for your advice and knowledge all friends and
newsgroupers.

Sincerely,

John Tully

Re: Converting DVD to Internet

You can use total video converter http://www.effectmatrix.com

For a .mov to DVD mpeg while using total video converter, though total
video converter supports MOV internally, I recommend you download and
install quicktime player and open the file with directshow mode.
