Where is the temp file when I open a media file?

I would like to know...when I open a Windows Media Player file, and it
opens up the player and and video, where is it downloading to on my
computer? Is there like a common directory where these files are
streamed to, or is it strictly coming off of the internet? Does
something go to a temp directory file? I would like to know because I
am interested in how quickly certain video files are being streamed
from the internet to my computer..thanks
