Problem with firefox

I was wondering if anyone knew what could make your firefox browser
reset itself to its bare bones original settings and completely destroy
an entire bookmark list so that theres no sign of any bookmark that was
made previously? Are they down for maintenance or is this just a bug?
Much thanks and appreciation in advance for anyone that can help me out.

Virus, Trojan, MalWare, Browser Hijack, User Error? I've been using
Firefox since it first became available for Linux and now on my WinXP
system also and haven't encountered that problem. Can you supply any
details?

Re: Problem with firefox

Well I found out what I did, I accidentally deleted the file in my
firefox that contained all my favorites info, thus erasing them. But
now I have a new problem, which is whenever I start up my start up
pages on either firefox or IE, I get what seems like a ad pop up. It
comes up on the start page of my browser, almost seems internal, like
as if its something that snuck by my security. Ive used Nortons to
Spybot Search n Destroy, but Im on my fifth day of battling this thing
and I cant get rid of it. Both my Nortons and Spware programs tell me
that I have a Trojan that latches itself to my search toolbar, but how
do I get rid of the leech and not compromise the rest of my system or
browsers? Any help would be appreciated from those more educated in
such matters. Thanks in advance for any help given.
