The computer can be as smart as you want it to be if you learn some simple programming. If you are depending on someone else's programs you still have a lot of options. You can enter musical score and play it using your own choice of instruments. You can make your own feature movies. You can send pictures to anywhere in the world. You can store thousands of pictures and make them into slide shows. You can read from the greatest encyclopedias and dictionaries.

In other words, your question leaves a lot of wiggle room. Since you are using webtv you have probably never used a real computer. Before buying one, look to your local PC user group or computer club for beginners classes that will help you understand what a computer is and how it can do what you want. Don't be "sold" by some eager salesman in an appliance store who knows more about TV sets than computers.
