| formatting HD?? I have an older PC (PII 400) running windows 98 that I would like to install XP home on so I can network with my newer computer running xp. I am trying to format the HD so I can install XP but when I type "format:c" at the A prompt, I get the message "required parameter missing". What am I doing wrong? Am I going about this the right way; cleaning the HD by formatting it then installing XP (from my newer computer)? Do I need to buy upgrade software for 98 to XP? I have saved anything I want to from the old computer. Thanks for your help in advance. Rob |

You might want to read this http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?kbid=313348 before starting a format,MS points out the importance of verifying your hardware is supported by XP. The XP setup provides the ability to format and partition your hard drive. XP needs to be registered, so you might have to buy a copy. |
