| Changing Default Gateway address My father has a company laptop that came configured to access his company's LAN from within the office. His laptop is also configured to dial a 1-800 number for when he is away. However, He allready has a cable internet access account for home use with his personal PC. He want's to be able to use his cable internet connection to access his company servers from home with his company laptop for convienece and to save his company money. I believe that the reason this is not working is because his laptop's Default Gateway Address is pre-set to the IP address of the gateway device at his office (I belive it to be a router). I think that if he were to change his laptop's Gateway address to that of the gateway device in his home (another router), that then he should be able to access a broadband intnernet connection from his laptop. His comapny did not have any objections to this and said that their servers should be accessable from an outside source (i.e. internet). However, they do not have an in house Tech department and none of the poeple there are computer saavy. Unfortunatly, I have had only limited "real-world" experience with cable modems and broad band in general since I personally use dial up. I think I may be missing a step. Maybe software for the cable modem? I don't know. Will his Gateway address match the router's IP, or the cable modem's? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. | Re: Changing Default Gateway address Well Fisrt off what Windows Versio is he running, and has he been using the Cable Modem on another computer from his home location? Because he needs to have the Cable modem, registered with the Cable company, through their web address, (Best solution is to call the cable company to get this part done) there are several ways to change the Default gateway, but I need to know the OS first.
