| Weird, SIMPLE XP Pro problem My niece of 15 has hit a certain wall with XP Pro. She got virused to DEATH, reformatted and now has firewalls, Norton AntiVirus and etc. in place. Good BAD lesson, heh. The problem is that her desktop is HUGE and she can't get it down to a usable size. All panels that pop up reach outside the bounds of her 13" screen, forcing her to move them around to get to usable spaces. The fonts also refuse to drop below about a 14 and seems tied to the stubbornly large screens that keep popping up, from Internet Explorer to Usenet. Its a preferences oddity of some sort and we're stuck. As a Mac user, I can't seem to help her here, as the main Mac toolbar has a different set of tools in the key places she needs to address. I can fix this in a snap on mine, but XP is a cypher to me. Would one of you please point us to the no doubt SIMPLE fix for customizing this sucker properly? Thanks! Even her wallpaper pic spills over the edges. We considered a gun misalignment, but discarded the idea because it runs well otherwise. The control panel cannot be resized and the screen is too big to let her get to the button at the bottom to apply the changes. That's forcing her to move everything ELSE around constantly to reach ANY controls. The various buttons are OUTSIDE the edges of the screen. Its as if its set for a 24" monitor and spilling outside the confines of the 13" one. I wish I could explain it better... its ALWAYS some new hitch with Windows, heh.... its just greatly hampering her use of it. I've NEVER seen a computer DO this! I thought it could simply be a screen-sizing issue and easy to fix, but the START box's control panel buttons are out of reach, preventing possible fixes. No access to controls = gnashing of teeth and such, heh. Is that any more clear? We're really scratching our heads. TIA, regardless. David |

| Re: Weird, SIMPLE XP Pro problem You need to start in safe mode and see what is going on. If you can't do that then you have a video card problem. Its a Dell and has performed pretty solidly, but of course, its past the one-year warranty point, so I sure hope its a minimal issue. Thanks for the help. |
