| password recovery, LINUX I am trying to get into an inherited computer with Linux 2.0.35. Have found and read several articles on recovery from lost passwords. All suggest entering something at the LILO prompt. I have tried all variations that I can think of, including those listed here: linux single linux=single linux 1 linux=1 linux init=/bin/sh rw init=/bin/sh rw linux init=/bin/bash init=/bin/bash I have preceded the above with all of the entries here( tab, shift, alt, enter, ctrl+x, prior to linux single, etc.)………no luck. I know that what I'm trying to do is possible, as I personally witnessed same a few years ago and the person did not have a boot floppy/disk or anything other than the knowledge that I'm looking for ( wish I had contact with him now!). Is anyone out there able to steer me in the right direction?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
