| Access Startup and Speed Up Computer Hey, I have a Gateway 2000 that is fairly odd in terms of computers and is running Windows 2000. I have two questions about this system. 1.) How can I access the list of startup programs? I know in every other version of windows you can use msconfig but Windows 2000 does not have msconfig so does anyone know of a way I can view the start up. 2.) How can I speed up the computer without getting hardware? I have cleared all of the temporary files that I now of, mainly internet ones. But the computer is still often pretty slow and I know installing RAM would probably help fix this problem but it will probably be replaced in another year anyway so that is just not going to happen. I was hoping some might have some software, tips or tricks that might help me just speed the computer up a little. Thank you in advance for your help. |

| Re: Access Startup and Speed Up Computer 1) By registry, use Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe to open registry, go to the following HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run By Startup folder, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup * *Replace Administrator as your username. Software that do the startup management. http://www.xstudio.ca//pcsupport/sys...anagement.html 2) Remove the startup programs or those programs list in your system tray as many as possible. Increase the virtual memory /swap file. http://xstudio.ca/pcsupport/system/t...ml#Performance You may use memory tools to try to spped up your PC. http://xstudio.ca/pcsupport/system/memorytools.html http://xstudio.ca/pcsupport/system/p...ancetools.html However, the most effective way to speed up is to add more Rams. It is worth to do it.
